You can earn your first dollar with a few hundred followers, and earn very little with a hundred thousand. What decides it is how many people pay and what they buy after.

You do not need any minimum number of followers to make money on OnlyFans or a similar fan page: OnlyFans requires a minimum account balance to withdraw, not a minimum number of subscribers. What matters is paying fans. Plan on roughly 0.5% to 2% of your Instagram followers subscribing, so 1,000 followers might give 5 to 20 fans and 10,000 might give 50 to 200. At $9.99 a month that is about $40 to $160 or $400 to $1,600 a month after OnlyFans’ 20% fee, before anything fans buy beyond the subscription.
A follower tapped a button once. A paying fan opens your page, trusts you enough to enter a card, and stays. Only a small share make that jump. No platform publishes an official conversion rate. The most detailed public estimates come from Inrō, a DM tools company, which describes below 0.5% as typical for a link in bio alone and 0.5% to 2% as a funnel that partly works (July 2026, vendor estimates). The “1 to 1.5%” figure repeated on agency sites has no source we could find. We use 0.5%, 1% and 2% below.
Subscription income for one month at $9.99. OnlyFans keeps 20% of each fan payment; HerFans keeps a flat 20%.
| Followers | Rate | Paying fans | Fans pay (× $9.99) | After 20% (OnlyFans) | After 20% (HerFans) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | 0.5% | 5 | $49.95 | $39.96 | $39.96 |
| 1,000 | 1% | 10 | $99.90 | $79.92 | $79.92 |
| 1,000 | 2% | 20 | $199.80 | $159.84 | $159.84 |
| 10,000 | 0.5% | 50 | $499.50 | $399.60 | $399.60 |
| 10,000 | 1% | 100 | $999.00 | $799.20 | $799.20 |
| 10,000 | 2% | 200 | $1,998.00 | $1,598.40 | $1,598.40 |
| 100,000 | 0.5% | 500 | $4,995.00 | $3,996.00 | $3,996.00 |
| 100,000 | 1% | 1,000 | $9,990.00 | $7,992.00 | $7,992.00 |
| 100,000 | 2% | 2,000 | $19,980.00 | $15,984.00 | $15,984.00 |
Each row: followers × rate = paying fans (1,000 × 0.005 = 5); paying fans × $9.99 = what fans pay (5 × $9.99 = $49.95); × 0.80 = what you keep on OnlyFans ($49.95 × 0.80 = $39.96). These are scenarios, not forecasts. Large accounts usually convert at a lower rate than small ones, so the 100,000 at 2% row is the least likely. And the typical creator earns far less than these tables suggest: one panel based estimate puts the OnlyFans median near $180 a year (onlyfansstatistics.com, September 2026).
Subscriptions are the smaller part of fan spending. In OnlyFans’ FY2025, pay-per-view, tips and messages were about 73% of the platform’s revenue and subscriptions about 27% (onlyfansstatistics.com, summarizing company filings). Safe for work platforms report the same pattern: more than 60% of creator revenue on Fanfix is said to come from paid messages (Social Day, July 2026, analyst and company figures).
For you this means 50 engaged fans who buy messages and posts can be worth more than 500 who subscribe and never open a message. A welcome message within the first day, a clear menu of what you sell and replies that feel personal do more than another thousand followers. See paid DMs explained and how much to charge.
No. Some pages claim you need hundreds or even over a thousand subscribers before you can be paid. OnlyFans’ Terms of Service (last updated August 2024, read 2 October 2026) say only that “your account balance must meet the minimum payout amount requirement”: a balance, not a subscriber count. Third party guides commonly cite $20; we could not confirm the amount on an OnlyFans page we could read. On HerFans you can request a payout once your identity is approved and your available balance reaches $10.
You can open a page with no audience and build it from scratch, though it is slower. Our guide on starting with no followers covers where first fans come from, and the short answer is in do you need followers to start. If you already have an Instagram, read Instagram to OnlyFans: the switch plan and what 10k followers can earn. For TikTok audiences, see how to monetize TikTok followers.
HerFans has no follower minimum and no monthly plan: a flat 20% of every sale. Create your free page or read more for creators.

Pay-per-view posts, paid messages, tips and custom requests agreed in messages, all on one page.
Once your identity is approved, request a payout from $10 to an IBAN or PayPal account in your own name.
Sign up in seconds with email, pick a creator name, and set up your profile. No upfront cost.
Upload photos and videos, set a monthly subscription price, and lock premium posts behind pay-per-view.
Fans subscribe, tip and unlock your content. You ask for a payout from your dashboard once your available balance reaches the published minimum. Each sale is pending for 30 days, the period in which refunds and most card disputes arrive, and 10% of it is held as a reserve until day 120. For a sale paid by card, the reserve is held longer, up to day 206, because our card processor keeps its own reserve on that payment for 26 weeks and it is released to you once it has been returned to us.
