HerFans is for adults. This page sets out how we establish that the people who publish here are adults, what we ask of the people who visit, and where the limits of each check lie.
Applies to every account and every visitor. Last reviewed with the platform as it stands today.
Two different checks, and they are not the same strength.
Selling here runs through verification against a government issued identity document and a live camera check in the same session. Everyone who merely looks confirms that they are 18 or over, and that confirmation is their own statement. We describe both exactly, rather than letting the stronger one stand for the weaker.
1. People who publish: document and live camera check
Selling and payouts run through identity verification, and nobody publishes or is paid until it has been accepted here. The check has three parts, in one session opened on the applicant's own phone:
The material is read by an automated check, which writes down what it found. It approves nothing: every submission is looked at and decided by a person. The points the person confirms are fixed: the document has to read as a real document rather than a photograph of a screen, the name and date of birth on it have to match what she typed, the live camera check has to hold together, and the face in front of the camera has to be the face on the document. Every decision is stored with the person who took it, named by her account. A document that has expired ends the verification: publishing and payouts pause until a current one is sent, and the account is written to before that happens.
Accounts that predate this rule are being taken through the same check. Profiles that were already approved and publishing before it came in hold a deadline set in the platform, published to each of them by mail and shown on the account itself, and after that date the account goes read-only until it passes. We say this rather than let the paragraph above be read as a statement about every account on the platform today.
What we store, where, and for how long is set out in the privacy policy. The records themselves are kept under 18 U.S.C. 2257.
2. People who appear in material but do not hold the account
Where anyone other than the creator appears, she must hold a consent and release for that person before the material is published: legal name, date of birth, proof of age and written consent. The form is published at Performer Consent and Release, the obligation is a clause of the Content Creator Agreement, and a post with that person in it is held, and not published, until the record is on file.
3. Visitors: what we do, said without dressing it up
A visitor meets an age confirmation before anything adult is shown, and the public surface of the site is kept safe for work in any case: every image is machine rated before it can appear anywhere a signed out visitor can reach, and anything rated adult is shown only to a signed in adult.
Age and price are two separate questions, and we keep them apart here. What protects a minor is the account and the confirmation, not the price: nothing rated adult is served to a signed out visitor at any price, and a signed in account meets the confirmation before it is served either. What a post costs is the creator's own decision, made per post: she publishes it free to her audience, to her subscribers, or at a price of her choosing.
Stated exactly as the software behaves today, because the distinction matters to anyone checking: material rated adult is currently also kept to a creator's paying subscribers, since a post that the rating moves to adult is moved to her subscribers with it. So paying is one route through, and it is not the gate. The gate is being signed in and having confirmed your age, and it applies to every adult image whatever its price.
Outside the territories listed in section 4, that confirmation is a self declaration. We do not check every visitor's age against a document, a credit reference or a third party service, and we say so here because a reviewer will test it in the first minute and because a policy that implies more than the product does is worth less than nothing. Inside those territories the self declaration is not the gate: section 4 sets out the document and camera check that is.
4. Territories that require more than a self declaration, and what we do there
A self declaration does not meet the law in a growing number of places. In the United Kingdom the Online Safety Act requires age assurance that is "highly effective", and Ofcom says in terms that a tick box is not. France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Australia each have their own duty, and twenty seven states of the United States now have an age verification statute in force for adult websites.
We do not withdraw from those places and we do not pretend the tick box is enough. We check. A visitor signing in from one of the territories listed below is asked to prove her age the same way every creator who sells here proves hers: photographs of both sides of a government issued identity document, and a short live camera check on her own phone with instructions given on screen, so what we have is a person in front of a camera and not a photograph of a photograph. The two are then compared, and the date of birth is read off the document itself.
It is done once. After that the site behaves normally and she is not asked again.
Where the photographs go.
When the answer is known, her account shows that the age was confirmed, the date, and that it was confirmed with a document and a camera check. Nothing anyone photographs is put in cloud storage and nothing is reachable from the web: it stays on our own server, is never shown to other users, and every time a person opens it that is logged.
Where this applies today (33):
Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Australia, Florida, France, Georgia, Germany, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Italy, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Spain, Tennessee, Texas, United Kingdom, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming.
The list is held in the platform's configuration and changes as the law does, which at the moment means several times a year. It is read straight out of the software on to this page, so what you are reading and what the site enforces cannot come apart.
Why we do it ourselves rather than buying it. The method most age assurance vendors sell is an age estimated from a photograph of a face, which is a statistical guess with a published margin of a year or two. What is described above is the strictest method on Ofcom's own list, photo identity matching, and we already run it every day for the women who sell here. Doing it ourselves also means one fewer company holding a copy of somebody's passport.
5. What happens when a check fails, or when we are told we got it wrong
Material we cannot stand behind does not stay up while we think about it. Anything the automatic screen flags is held and is not published, and a person reviews it. A report about a person's age, from anyone at all and with no account needed, goes to the complaints route, and material reported as showing a minor is removed immediately and reported to the authorities.
Anyone can contest a decision of ours at appeals, including a person who appears in material and is not a member here.

Adults only, 18 or over
HerFans is a subscription platform for adult creators and is restricted to people aged 18 or over, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher. Nothing explicit is shown on these public pages: adult material is behind sign-up and is visible only to members who have confirmed their age. By continuing you confirm you meet that age, that adult material is legal where you are, and that you accept our Terms and Privacy Policy. Parents can restrict access with tools such as ASACP-listed filtering software.
