The two kinds of paid message

Paid DMs Explained and What You Are Actually Paying For

Paid DM is two different things wearing one name, and they behave nothing alike. Confusing them is why people feel surprised by charges. Here is each one, which of them exists on HerFans, and when it is worth paying.

Two separate things are called paid DMs. Paying to send, where a platform lets a creator charge for every message a fan sends her. And priced attachments: she sends a photo or video with a price on it, it arrives locked, and you choose whether to open it. On HerFans only the second one exists. Subscribers can message her, only a subscriber can write to a creator, and there is no price per message on top of the subscription. Receiving anything is free, and her replies to you are always free.

The two types side by side

Type What triggers the charge On HerFans Worth it when
Paying to sendYou sending a message, on platforms that price each oneNot used. Subscribers message her at no extra cost. Not applicable here
Priced attachmentYou opening media she sent. Receiving it is free. Her price on that item, usually in the range of a paid postYou want that specific thing and nothing else

Who can message a creator

Her subscribers. That is the same rule OnlyFans uses, and it replaces a price per message: instead of paying for each message, you subscribe, and her inbox opens together with her paid feed. It keeps her inbox for the people who support her, which is also why a message from a subscriber is far more likely to be read.

If your subscription ends, the conversation does not disappear. You can still read it and open anything she sent you, and a new message waits until you subscribe again. A trial from her trial link counts as a subscription while it runs.

Priced attachments are the part people misunderstand

She can attach media to a message and put a price on it. The important detail: receiving it costs nothing. It arrives locked, you see that it exists and what it costs, and nothing is charged unless you choose to open it. There is no way to be charged for a message you did not want, and nothing arrives pre-charged. Opening it works whether or not you still subscribe.

Once opened it is yours, the same as unlocking a post on her feed. That is worth knowing when comparing against a subscription: subscription access runs month to month for as long as you keep it, while an item you opened does not expire when a subscription lapses.

What a paid message is not

What you never pay for

Subscription or single unlock?

It depends entirely on what you want out of it. If you want an ongoing conversation, subscribe: at $4.99 to $15.99 a month it opens her inbox and her whole paid feed. If you want one specific item she has already sent you, opening it costs less than a month you will not use.

One practical note. Both are paid at the moment you subscribe or open the item. Reading her public posts is free, and it is the thing that makes a first message worth answering. There is more on that in how to message a creator.

How to start in three steps

1

Browse before you sign up

Open Explore and look around. Profiles, prices and public posts are visible without an account, and the public surface is safe for work.

2

Create a free account

An email address and a code, and you are in. Then follow the creators you like for free and message the ones who take free DMs. HerFans is 18+ and you confirm that when you join.

3

Subscribe or unlock

A subscription gives you a month of her posts. Paid by card, it renews every month until you cancel, and we email you 3 days before each renewal; paid any other way, it ends with the month you paid for, and we email you a link to renew. A single post, a paid message and a tip are single purchases, paid at the moment you buy.

Frequently asked questions

What are paid DMs?
Two different things share the name. Paying to send, where a creator charges for each message a fan sends, does not exist on HerFans: only subscribers can message a creator, at no extra cost. A priced attachment is media she sends locked: free to receive, and charged only if you choose to open it. Her replies to you are always free.
Do I get charged for messages a creator sends me?
No. Receiving is always free, including attachments, which arrive locked with their price shown. You are only ever charged for something you chose: a subscription, or an attachment you opened.
Can I message a creator without subscribing?
No. Subscribers can message her, the same rule as on OnlyFans. Without a subscription you can still read an earlier conversation with her and open anything she sent you.
Is a paid DM cheaper than a subscription?
For one item she already sent you, opening it is cheaper. For a conversation you need a subscription, which runs $4.99 to $15.99 and also includes her paid feed.
Does a paid message bill by the minute?
No. Nothing on HerFans is charged by time. An attachment you open is one payment. There is no meter anywhere in a conversation.
