If Instagram disabled your account, appeal first through the official route: the review option Instagram shows on the disabled notice when you try to log in. Do not open a new account to replace it while the old one is disabled, because Meta disables accounts created to get around its restrictions. Then reach your paying fans through channels you own, such as an email list and your own page, so the business keeps running while the appeal is pending or if it fails.

Appeal first: the official route

Meta’s Transparency Center (Disabling accounts, Last Updated July 17, 2025) says: “If your Facebook or Instagram account has been disabled, you’ll see a message saying your account is disabled when you try to log in. We also let you know whether you can request another review if you believe we made a mistake.” That message is your starting point.

  1. Log in and read the notice carefully. It tells you whether a review is available.
  2. Request the review from that screen. Keep the explanation short and factual: what the account is, that you follow the rules on nudity and solicitation, and which decision you think is wrong.
  3. Use only Instagram’s own screens and help center. People who offer to “recover” accounts for a fee are not part of Meta’s process.
  4. If a post decision was reviewed twice and you still disagree, Instagram’s help center says you may be able to appeal to the Oversight Board, within 15 days of the decision.

Meta does not publish how long reviews take, so plan for weeks rather than days. If the account was only restricted (no Live, no link sticker, lower reach) rather than disabled, the right tool is Account Status, explained in Instagram shadowban for creators.

Why a replacement account makes it worse

The common advice is to keep a backup or burner account and move to it the day the main one goes. That breaks Meta’s rules. Meta’s Disabling accounts page lists “accounts created to get around our restrictions” among those it disables as soon as it becomes aware of them. Its Account Integrity policy covers accounts “Created or repurposed to evade a previous account or entity removal, including those assessed to have common ownership and content as previously removed accounts or entities.” Instagram’s Terms of Use also require that Instagram has not previously disabled your account for violating the law or its policies.

In practice, a new account with the same face, name, links and content is the easiest one to match. It can be removed quickly and can weaken the appeal on the original. The better backup is not a second Instagram account; it is a way to reach fans that does not depend on Instagram at all.

Email list and your own domain

Telling fans where you are

When an account goes, tell people through the channels you own: an email to your list, a post on your fan page, a note on your own domain. On other social apps, a plain update (“my Instagram is down, you can find me here”) is fine within each app’s own rules. Do not ask fans to report, mass-follow or flood comments on any account, and do not run a replacement account to announce it. Keep the message calm and factual.

What we do on HerFans if your account is reported

HerFans is a fan subscription platform for women creators 18 and over. Every creator is identity verified before anyone can see her profile or pay her, and every upload is checked before it is visible, with anything doubtful held for a person. When content is reported, suspected illegal content is taken out of circulation at once, and suspected exploitation is reported to NCMEC through its CyberTipline where the law requires it. You can read how complaints are handled on our complaints page and our anti-human trafficking policy. A creator who follows our rules does not lose her page because a social app closed her account.

If what you lost was a paid platform account rather than Instagram, read OnlyFans account banned. To lower the risk on Instagram from now on, read how to promote on Instagram without getting banned and can you put an OnlyFans link in your Instagram bio.

On HerFans, fans can follow you for free, and tracked links show which channels send paying fans, so you know where to rebuild first. The fee is a flat 20% of every sale. Create your free page or read more for creators.

Fans can follow your HerFans page for free, so they are not lost when a social app closes an account.

✓

Know where to rebuild

Tracked links report clicks, sign-ups and money for each place you post.

✓

Payouts in your own name

How to start in three steps

1

Create your free page

Sign up in seconds with email, pick a creator name, and set up your profile. No upfront cost.

2

Add your content

Upload photos and videos, set a monthly subscription price, and lock premium posts behind pay-per-view.

3

Get paid

Fans subscribe, tip and unlock your content. You ask for a payout from your dashboard once your available balance reaches the published minimum. Each sale is pending for 30 days, the period in which refunds and most card disputes arrive, and 10% of it is held as a reserve until day 120. For a sale paid by card, the reserve is held longer, up to day 206, because our card processor keeps its own reserve on that payment for 26 weeks and it is released to you once it has been returned to us.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do if Instagram disabled my creator account?
Request a review from the disabled notice you see when you log in, keep it short and factual, and reach your fans through channels you own while you wait. Meta says the notice tells you whether a review is available.
Can I make a new Instagram account after a ban?
Not to get around a disabled account. Meta disables accounts created to get around its restrictions, and its Account Integrity policy covers accounts created to evade a previous removal.
How long does an Instagram appeal take?
Meta does not publish a time frame. Plan for weeks, and keep selling through your own page and email list in the meantime.
Should I pay someone to recover my Instagram account?
No. The official route is the review offered in the app and Instagram’s help center. Paid recovery services are not part of Meta’s process.
How do I tell fans where I am after a ban?
Through channels you own: your email list, your fan page and your own domain. On other apps, a plain update within their rules is fine.
