General guides list Instagram’s tools and stop there. If your feed is glamour, lingerie, swimwear or fitness, Meta’s own rules may keep you out of most of them. This is the route that still works.

To monetize Instagram followers when your content is glamour, lingerie, swimwear or fitness, use Instagram’s tools only where your content qualifies, and send followers to a fan page you own for the rest. Meta’s Content Monetization Policies list “sexual poses”, “suggestive dancing” and “revealing or absent items of clothing” as content that “may face reduced or disabled monetization”, so many of these accounts lose Instagram’s own payouts and most brand deals. A paid fan page with a neutral link in bio is allowed by Meta’s rules as written, as long as you never solicit.
If your feed is brand safe, our general guide on how to make money on Instagram covers sponsorships, affiliate links and selling products. This page picks up where that one ends.
All of Instagram’s money features sit behind two rule sets. The Partner Monetization Policies cover the account: eligible country, Community Standards, authentic engagement and “an authentic, established presence”. The Content Monetization Policies cover each piece of content, and Meta says “content appropriate for Instagram in general is not necessarily appropriate for monetization.” They also apply to your profile: creators must make sure “their profile pictures and profile descriptions as well as their content” follow them.
| Tool | Published requirements (read 2 October 2026) | What it pays |
|---|---|---|
| Gifts on Reels | Professional account, 18 or over, at least 500 followers, an eligible country, both policy sets | $0.01 per star; Instagram and the app store take their share when the fan buys stars |
| Subscriptions | Instagram’s pages we read do not publish a follower minimum; third party guides cite 10,000, which we could not confirm with Meta | Your monthly price; Meta waived its own fee as of November 2023; paid on the 21st of the following month |
| Branded content and partnership ads | Professional account, Community Standards, “a sufficient follower base” (no number published) | Whatever the brand pays you; Meta pays nothing |
| Bonuses and ad revenue | Invite only. Meta described an invite-only Ads on Profile test in November 2023; we found no open application on Instagram’s help pages | Not published |

The “sexual or suggestive activity” list in the Content Monetization Policies is the one that hits these niches: nudity, sexual activity, sexual poses, suggestive dancing, simulations of sexual activity, sex objects, suggestive language and “revealing or absent items of clothing”. Any of these “may face reduced or disabled monetization”. A swimwear try-on or a lingerie flat lay can land in that list depending on poses and framing, and Meta, not you, makes the call. Under prohibited behaviors the same policy also excludes content that “requests compensation in exchange for” disrobing.
That is the gap. The audience is real, Instagram lets the content exist, but Instagram will not pay you for it and many brands will not either.
Meta’s Adult Sexual Solicitation policy (last updated 14 May 2025) does not ban a link to a subscription site. It lists “usernames, links to or logos of Adult Subscription Websites” among content it limits to viewers 18 and over. What it removes is solicitation: offering sex chats or nude images, including in DMs, which follow the same rules as posts. In practice:

Start where buyers already are. One directory sample of about 100,200 OnlyFans profiles (June 2026, an estimate from a non-random sample) found a median paid price of $9.99 and 37% of profiles free. A few rules that hold up:
