Every major platform that pays creators sets the minimum age at 18: OnlyFans, Fansly, Fanvue, Fanfix, Instagram Subscriptions, TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program and HerFans all require creators to be at least 18, and the adult platforms check it with a government ID and photos or a live face check. Patreon is the one exception for general content, where a creator page under 18 needs a parent’s or guardian’s permission; adult creators on Patreon must verify they are over 18.
We read each platform’s own terms or help pages on 2 October 2026. Where we could not confirm a detail from an official page, the table says so. Rules change, so check the linked source before you rely on it. This is general information, not legal advice.
| Platform | Minimum age to earn | What is checked | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| OnlyFans | 18, and able to be legally bound by a contract | “A valid form of ID and two photos of you”, a payout method, more checks on request | Terms of Service, updated August 2024 |
| Fansly | 18 and the age of majority where you reside | Creator registration approved by Fansly; verified bank account and tax forms (the terms do not list the ID documents) | Terms of Service, read 2 October 2026 |
| Fanvue | 18 | Government ID and facial recognition matching through Ondato; documents stored per 2257 | Age Verification Policy, read 2 October 2026 |
| Fanfix | 18, no parental consent exception | Age and identity verification through Persona | Creator Terms, updated 1 August 2026 |
| Patreon | 18, or a parent’s permission for general pages; 18 for Adult/18+ creators | Adult creators verify they are over 18 “through the means requested” | Terms of Use, 27 May 2026 version |
| Instagram Subscriptions | 18, professional account, 10,000 followers | Monetization eligibility and policies | Instagram Help Center, read 2 October 2026 |
| TikTok Creator Rewards | 18 (19 in South Korea), 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in 30 days | Real name and date of birth on the account; periodic reviews | TikTok Support, read 2 October 2026 |
| HerFans | 18, women creators | Photos of a government ID (front and back) and a live camera check in the same session; a person decides | Age verification policy |
Fansly is the most explicit: you must be “at least eighteen (18) years old; and (ii) have reached the age of majority where you reside.” OnlyFans adds that you must be “able to be legally bound by a contract with us”, and Fanvue that you are “not precluded by domestic/local laws”. Meta uses the same idea for Meta Verified: “at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your country of residence.” In the US, Alabama and Nebraska set the age of majority at 19. What this means in practice for a first account is on can you start an OnlyFans at 18.
Instagram’s Terms of Use allow accounts from 13, and TikTok’s US terms from 13 (14 in Florida). Their money features are a separate gate. Instagram Subscriptions requires you to “Be 18 years or older” with a professional account of at least 10,000 followers. TikTok’s Community Guidelines say: “You must be 18 and older to use monetization features”, and the Creator Rewards Program excludes accounts with “Fraudulent or underage account information, such as a fake name or date of birth.” The rules for moving a social audience to a paid page are on Instagram’s 18+ restrictions for creators.
Three kinds of check show up across these platforms:
Some platforms use outside providers: Fanvue and Fansly (for age checks in some US states) use Ondato, Fanfix uses Persona. On HerFans, an automated check reads the material and writes what it found, approves nothing, and a person decides every submission. More on the process: creator age and ID verification.
Age rules do not stop at the account holder. OnlyFans requires that each person in content you upload is a tagged creator or “an individual at least 18 years of age whose proof of identity and whose written, informed consent you have obtained”. Fansly requires government issued identification showing each person depicted is at least 18. On HerFans, anyone else appearing in content needs their own verification and a signed consent and release before the post is published.
None of these platforms can accept anyone under 18 to earn, and parental permission does not change that on the adult platforms. We explain why, and where to find help, on under 18: why no platform can accept you. For the wider question of photo income, see minimum age to sell photos online.
Choosing where to start? Compare the rules above with the first time creator guide. HerFans is for women creators 18 and over, profiles stay hidden until identity is approved, and records are kept under 18 U.S.C. 2257. Create your free page, or read more for creators.

Fans subscribe, tip and unlock your content. You ask for a payout from your dashboard once your available balance reaches the published minimum. Each sale is pending for 30 days, the period in which refunds and most card disputes arrive, and 10% of it is held as a reserve until day 120. For a sale paid by card, the reserve is held longer, up to day 206, because our card processor keeps its own reserve on that payment for 26 weeks and it is released to you once it has been returned to us.
