Almost no one hires a virtual girlfriend at an hourly wage. The money is per message, per minute and per subscriber, and the platform fee decides how much of it you keep. Here are the real rates and where the work pays best.

Virtual girlfriend jobs pay you to text, call and video chat with someone who wants attention and conversation, with no meeting in person. Very few of them are hourly jobs with an employer. Almost all of the money in this work is paid per message and per minute on a creator platform, so the number that decides your income is the platform’s cut. OnlyFans, Fansly, Fanvue, Popcall and HerFans all pay 80%, while SextPanther and ManyVids keep 40% of every paid message.
That is the part the job listings never tell you. Search for a virtual girlfriend job and you get pages of blog posts pointing at friend-rental directories and a handful of chat networks, most of which either never reply or route you into a queue where you compete on price. Meanwhile the women actually earning $1,000 to $5,000 a month at companionship work are not employees at all. They run it as a one-woman business on a platform that handles billing, and they pick the platform on the fee.
There are four pay models in this niche, and they are not equally good.
Per message. A fan pays to send you a message or to open one you send. This is where most companionship income comes from because it scales with attention, not hours. It is also where platform fees vary the most: 60% to you on SextPanther and on ManyVids Pay To Open, against 80% on the mainstream creator platforms, and 80% on HerFans.
Per minute. Phone and video calls bill by the minute. On SextPanther, a sample of 42 live model listings had a median rate of $4.88 a minute for phone and $9.00 a minute for video, so video is priced at roughly 1.8 times phone across that sample. A single 20 minute video call at the median is about $180 in gross billing.
Per month. A subscription buys ongoing access. Companionship converts to subscriptions better than almost any other content type, because the product is continuity: someone to talk to tomorrow as well as today.
Per booking. The friend-rental model, where a client books a block of time. It is the model most of the "get paid to be an online girlfriend" articles describe, and it is the weakest of the four. You are paid once, you carry the scheduling, and there is nothing to renew.
The women who do best combine the first three. A subscriber base pays the floor, paid messages pay the middle, and calls and custom recordings pay the spikes. If you want the fuller breakdown of message and call economics across platforms, the write-up on how to make money sexting covers the same lane from the pricing side.
Nobody publishes an official wage for this, so treat any single number you see with suspicion. What can be checked is what platforms charge and what creators list publicly. Here is the honest range.
| Format | Common listed price | What you keep at 80% | What you keep at 60% |
|---|---|---|---|
| Text message reply | $1.75 median on SextPanther | $1.40 | $1.05 |
| Phone, per minute | $4.88 median on SextPanther | $3.90 | $2.93 |
| Video call, per minute | $9.00 median on SextPanther | $7.20 | $5.40 |
| Monthly subscription | $5 to $25 is the usual band | $4.00 to $20.00 | $3.00 to $15.00 |
| Custom voice note or clip | $10 to $50 depending on length | $8.00 to $40.00 | $6.00 to $30.00 |
The SextPanther medians come from 42 live public model listings for each format, so they are a real market snapshot rather than an estimate. They also show why the fee matters more than the rate. On a $2,000 month, the gap between keeping 60% and keeping 80% is $400. You cannot negotiate that back with better conversation.
It is real paid work, but it is self-employment, not employment. In the United States you are a sole proprietor by default. Nobody withholds tax for you, there is no W-2, and from tax year 2026 the 1099-NEC reporting threshold is $2,000 while 1099-K reporting kicks in above $20,000 and 200 transactions. You owe self-employment tax at 15.3% once your net is over $400, whether or not a form arrives. Set aside roughly a quarter to a third of what you earn and read the notes on taxes for creators before your first quarter closes, not after.
The upside of self-employment here is that you set the rate, the hours and the boundaries, and nothing is capped. The downside is that the platform, not an employer, decides how fast you are paid and how much of your money you keep.
Two things separate a good platform from a bad one for this work: the cut it takes on messages, and how quickly a real balance turns into money in your bank. Both are listed in the table below. The pattern is consistent. Platforms built specifically for paid chat, SextPanther and NiteFlirt, bring buyers who already expect to pay per message, and they charge heavily for it. The general creator platforms take less but expect you to bring your own audience.
Most companionship work does not need your face at all. Voice, writing and consistency carry it, which is why this is one of the few earning routes that works for women who will not post identifiable images. A workable setup is a persona name you have checked is not already taken, a separate email, a payout method in your legal name that never appears publicly, and content that avoids your neighborhood, your car and your workplace.
Two protections matter more than the rest. The first is a watermark burned into the file rather than laid over it in the viewer, so a screenshot still carries your name. The second is geographic blocking, so people in your own area cannot reach your profile. HerFans applies creator-set blocks across 52 countries and enforces them on existing subscribers, not only new ones, which is not how OnlyFans handles it. What HerFans does not do is block individual US states; OnlyFans and Fansly both do, and if blocking one state is your specific requirement you should know that before you choose. The page on blocking states and countries on OnlyFans lays out both sides.
If you work under a persona, it is also worth checking every few months where that name is showing up across the web, since reposts usually surface on forums and aggregator sites long before anyone tells you.

What each platform leaves you on a paid message, and how long it holds your money before you can spend it. Sorted by what you keep.
| Platform | Creator keeps | Payouts | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| HerFans | 80% | From $10, no seller fee | Paid messages, paid posts and subscribers in one account |
| OnlyFans | 80% | About 7 days pending, then 3 to 5 business days | The largest audience already searching |
| Fansly | 80% | 7 day hold, $20 minimum by US ACH | Free and paid tiers without a second account |
| Fanvue | 80% | $20 minimum plus 5 uploads first | Starting fresh with a small catalog |
| Popcall | 80% | Monthly, by PayPal, Zelle or ACH | Replying to an existing Instagram following |
| SextPanther | 60% on messages, 75% on calls (creator reported) | Twice a month, $20 minimum | Buyers who arrive already paying per message |
| ManyVids | 60% on Pay To Open messages, 80% on tips | Weekly Wednesdays, $50 minimum | Selling video alongside the chat |
| NiteFlirt | About 56% at the $0.99 minimum | Weekly, varies by method | Phone-first work with a caller base |
Fees and payout terms are set by each platform and can change. Figures reflect publicly listed terms; check each site for current rates.
a flat 20% on everything, so a paid message, a paid post, a tip and a subscription are all charged the same way, with no rate card that changes by product. There is no per-minute billing here: this is a subscription and content platform, and if selling time by the minute is the business you want, one of the phone platforms below is the right tool. Payouts start at $10 once your identity is verified, and each sale is pending for 30 days first, the period in which refunds and most card disputes arrive.
Built for exactly this kind of work: paid DMs, subscriptions and tips. Watermarks are burned into the file rather than drawn over it, and creator-set country blocks apply to people who already subscribed, not only to new ones.
The honest limitation: it is a newer platform, so the browsing audience is small. You bring the fans, and what you get in exchange is a platform for women only, verified creators, files watermarked on the way out, and payouts on request within three business days, after a 30 day pending period per sale (10% reserve to day 120). Compare the payout percentages side by side.
Flat 20% with no seller subscription, and by a wide margin the biggest pool of people who already have a card on file for this kind of content. Fenix Internet LLC is the merchant of record, and its FY2024 accounts show $5.80B paid to creators from $7.22B of gross volume, which is the 80.3% you would expect and a rare case of a platform’s published numbers matching its stated rate.
For companionship work specifically, the weakness is refunds. Creators have no say in them: purchases are final by default and any exception is at the platform’s discretion. If you sold a 40 minute call and the fan disputes it, you are not part of that conversation.
The closest thing to a paid-chat marketplace with real demand. Around 1,075 models are listed, and the traffic is people who came specifically to pay for messages and calls, which is very different from persuading a follower to start.
You pay for that. Creator reports put the split at 60% on texts and media, 75% on calls and 80% on tips, and none of those figures are published by the company. Payouts run twice a month with a $20 minimum. If you have no audience of your own, the 40% it takes on messages is buying you distribution, and that can be a fair trade for a first year. Read the full SextPanther review before you commit.
Creators set their own rates and keep 80%; Popcall keeps 20%. The account is free, you earn on each message you reply to within two days and on each minute of a call, and you can set a soft character limit above which longer messages pay you more. There is an Instagram auto-reply integration, which is the real reason to use it: it monetizes DMs you were already answering for nothing.
The catch is the payout schedule. Popcall pays monthly, by PayPal, Zelle or ACH. Monthly is the slowest cycle of any platform on this page, and if cash flow is the reason you are doing this work, that is a genuine cost. Figures read from Popcall’s own site in September 2026.
A flat 80%, stated verbatim in its terms of service rather than left to guesswork. The useful feature for companionship work is tiered access: a free tier to talk to people and a paid tier for the real thing, without running two accounts.
Fansly also gives creators full refund discretion, which is the opposite of the OnlyFans position and worth something when you sell time rather than files. The cost is speed. Every sale pends seven days to the hour, approval takes roughly another two days and delivery one to three business days, so nine to twelve days is normal. Minimum is $20 by US ACH, and there is a $5 a month inactivity charge taken from earnings after twelve months.
The oldest name in paid phone work, and still the default answer when someone asks where to take calls. It advertises a 70% split, but that is applied after a connection charge of roughly $0.20 per call. At the $0.99 per minute minimum, $0.99 less $0.20 leaves $0.79, and 70% of that is $0.553, so your effective share is about 56%, not 70%.
That is fine if NiteFlirt is sending you callers you would never have found. It is a poor deal if you are bringing your own.
A flat 20%, applied to messages, calls, customs, tips and subscriptions alike. On a $2,000 month that is $1,600 to you, the same as the 20% OnlyFans takes and well above the $1,200 a 60% split at the paid-chat marketplaces leaves.
Sent within three business days of the request, after a 30 day pending period per sale (10% reserve to day 120). Fansly and OnlyFans hold every sale about seven days first, ManyVids pays weekly at $50, and Popcall only pays monthly.
No seller plan and no monthly cost. A flat 20% on every sale type, charged only on what you sell, so a month with no sales costs you nothing.
Voice notes, writing and audio sell fine here, and the watermark is written into the stored file, bottom right, rather than drawn over it in the app, so a screenshot still carries your name.
Creator-set blocks across 52 countries, enforced on people who already subscribed rather than only on new ones. HerFans does not filter by individual US state; OnlyFans and Fansly do, and we would rather say so than let you find out later.
A monthly subscription, paid posts, paid messages and tips in the same account, so one regular can spend far more than the price of a single conversation without you having to sell him somewhere else.
Sign up in seconds with email, pick a creator name, and set up your profile. No upfront cost.
Upload photos and videos, set a monthly subscription price, and lock premium posts behind pay-per-view.
Fans subscribe, tip and unlock your content. You ask for a payout from your dashboard once your available balance reaches the published minimum. Each sale is pending for 30 days, the period in which refunds and most card disputes arrive, and 10% of it is held as a reserve until day 120. For a sale paid by card, the reserve is held longer, up to day 206, because our card processor keeps its own reserve on that payment for 26 weeks and it is released to you once it has been returned to us.
