Patreon Alternatives for Adult Content Creators

Start earning on HerFans

Free to join, one flat fee on what you sell, and no monthly seller subscription.

The best Patreon alternative for adult content depends on who is in the content. If you draw, animate or write explicit work, SubscribeStar.adult takes 10% plus processing and lets you pass processing to fans, and Patreon itself allows it on Adult/18+ pages. If the explicit content is you, neither fits: Patreon does not permit real people in sexual acts, and SubscribeStar.adult hosts drawn and rendered work only. For that, the options are OnlyFans, Fansly, Fanvue and HerFans, which pays 80% on every sale.

We run HerFans, so this comparison has an author with an interest. The rules and fees below are quoted from each platform’s own pages as they read in September 2026, and the one platform that beats us on price gets said out loud.

Does Patreon allow adult content?

Yes, within limits that catch a lot of creators out. Patreon has an Adult/18+ category, and in its Q4 2025 policy update it renamed the relevant section of its guidelines from "Sexually Gratifying Works" to "Adult/18+ Works" and spelled out what is allowed where. Illustrated, animated, written and audio sexual works are allowed on Adult/18+ pages. Its guidelines have long said it does not permit real people engaging in sexual acts, such as masturbation or sexual intercourse, on camera. Patreon reorganized that section in the update, so read the current wording before you plan a business around it.

The update also made one rule explicit that sinks a lot of pages: works featuring nudity, sexual activity or sexually explicit imagery must stay behind the paywall, visible only to paying members. Profile images, banners, tier descriptions, previews and posts for free members must not include it. So even allowed nudity cannot be used as the teaser that sells the tier.

Can you post nudes on Patreon?

On a page categorized as Adult/18+, nudity is allowed behind the paywall, and nowhere else on the page. What moves a page from allowed to removed is sexual activity involving real people. A creator selling tasteful nude sets to paying members is inside the rules; a creator selling explicit clips of herself is not, whatever the category of the page.

What about SubscribeStar?

SubscribeStar is the platform most often recommended as the adult-friendly Patreon, and for artists that reputation is earned. Its adult site, SubscribeStar.adult, charges a 10% platform fee (the safe for work SubscribeStar.com charges 5%), processing of 3% plus $0.30 to 10% plus $0.40 per charge, and lets you pass the processing on to fans. Its adult side, SubscribeStar.adult, is another matter for anyone who appears in her own work. The record-keeping statement in its terms says all sexually explicit images and video there are created with 2D and 3D art and animation software and involve no real life models, and the site now calls itself the number one monetization platform for NSFW digital artists. Our SubscribeStar alternative page covers its payout rules, including the $150 balance you need before you can withdraw. Our SubscribeStar review runs the numbers on the adult site.

Patreon alternatives for adult content, compared

Patreon90% before processing (about 2.9% plus $0.30)Not permittedSafe-for-work tiers, illustrated and written adult work
SubscribeStar90% before processing on its adult site (3% plus $0.30 to 10% plus $0.40)Not on its adult side, which is art onlyNSFW artists, animators, adult games
OnlyFans80%Allowed, 18+ and verifiedThe largest existing fan base
Fansly80%Allowed, 18+ and verifiedBeing found through tags and a For You feed
Fanvue85% in month one, then 80%Allowed, 18+ and verifiedCreators who want AI tools
HerFans80%Allowed, 18+ with ID and consent recordsWomen selling their own content

Two things stand out. The cheapest platforms are the ones that will not carry explicit content of real people, because carrying it is what costs money: age and identity checks on everyone who appears, consent records, content review and the card risk that comes with adult sales. And among the platforms that do carry it, the rate is 20% almost everywhere, so the choice comes down to payouts, protection and audience rather than the fee.

On price alone, SubscribeStar and Patreon win. That is the honest answer for an illustrator, and there is no reason for her to leave. For a creator whose product is herself, the bottom row decides the question before the money does, and a page that gets removed pays nothing at all.

What is the best Patreon alternative for NSFW creators who show their face?

If you already have a big following elsewhere, OnlyFans. Fans already have accounts and cards on file, and that matters more than anything a smaller platform offers. If you need to be found, Fansly, whose tag search and For You feed can put a new page in front of strangers; every sale pends for seven days before you can withdraw it. If you work with AI tools, Fanvue.

If you are a woman who wants her own work protected, HerFans. Every creator is checked with a government ID and a live camera session before she can sell. Every file is reviewed before it goes public, and each paid photo and video is marked with the account that bought it, so a leak points back to a buyer. It takes a flat 20% on subscriptions, pay-per-view posts, tips and paid messages, and pays on request from $10 to an IBAN or a PayPal account in your own name, within three business days, after a 30 day pending period per sale (10% reserve to day 120). The honest drawback is size: the fan base is newer and smaller than OnlyFans.

Do I need consent forms for anyone who appears with me?

On any platform that carries explicit content of real people, yes. Patreon’s guidelines require written consent from real adult participants visually featured in Adult/18+ work, and HerFans will not publish material with another person in it until her written consent and her own statement of age and identity are on file. If you shoot with partners regularly, keep a signed release for every shoot, collected with an online document signing tool so the signed copy is dated and stored the moment it is done, rather than on paper you have to find later.

Can I keep Patreon and run an adult page at the same time?

Yes, and it is the setup most creators end up with. Keep Patreon for the safe-for-work tiers that already earn: behind-the-scenes posts, polls, art, audio. Open the adult page separately and send people to it from your bios and your own channels rather than from Patreon, since public areas there cannot carry explicit previews. After 60 days, compare the two statements and decide where to spend your time. Our OnlyFans vs Patreon comparison covers the fee side in more depth, and the Patreon alternative for women creators page shows how HerFans handles memberships, pay-per-view and tips.
